Power Plant Chemistry

As a Chartered Chemist with many years' experience in power generation, Martyn provides expert advice on industrial water treatment, power plant chemistry and legionella control, helping organisations maintain safe, compliant and efficient operations.

Industrial water treatment and Power Plant chemistry

Martyn is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (Chartered Chemist) and set up the chemistry and water treatment arrangements for a large UK power station. This included developing management standards, organising tenders for water treatment contracts and ensuring key boiler and steam parameters were maintained within safe limits.

He has developed a global standard for the control of legionella for a major power generation company.

The legionella organism is responsible for causing Legionnaires Disease, a serious form of pneumonia caused by inhaling contaminated water droplets.

Power stations have the potential to harbour the organism inside their cooling towers. The provision of suitable water treatment programmes and effective management systems ensures this risk is adequately controlled.

He helped secure a global water treatment contract for a major power generation company and has presented a paper on Condenser Performance at a Global Power Generation Conference held in New Orleans, USA.
